Self-Portrait Not Yet Going Home

I thought I'd share this picture with whoever stumbles upon my weblife. It is me, if the title didn't clue you in. I tried to represent myself as a calm, self-reflective intellectual. However, it is my first attempt at a self-portrait, so take from it what you can. I definitely like it; I put some good time into it. Anyways, time to go finish all the other homework I've put off.

Peace,
Jere

Bloggin' Time (or: Get r' Done)

You'll have to excuse my absense for the past 10 days, as this is my first blog, I forgot it existed there for awhile. You'll see some big changes past today, big big changes (I'm thinking about adding a picture...)

So lately, I got a job at Convergys, a global call centre. Duties included answering calls from disgruntled Chicagoians whose modems weren't working. I started my 4 weeks of training a few days ago: 4 hours a night monday to friday, and 8 hours on saturdays. These hours would be fine if there were right after school so I had some time before I went to bed, or late so I had some time before I went to work, but they were slap in the middle of the evening. I could not even keep up my homework for one class, nevermind all 4. So... I didn't go last night--and I won't be going tonight. Fuck jobs that are inflexible, I am a student, they know it.

So instead of going to work last night, I went to the Duke. What a good way to spend freed (spl?) up time then getting wasted with the rugby team. At least I did some reading beforehand.

I better peace before I go all myspace emo.

Peace,
Jere

Update: After I quit Convergys, my roommate, also an employee there, quit too. He didn't want to be alone in a cubicle hell.

Seems like a useful tool to me.

Self-Expression or Slip of Mind

Last class in NM we discussed our feelings. The purpose of this was to get connected with outselves so that we can be more effective artists. I felt pretty awkward/shy at first with doing this because it is so unconventional, and I am an introvert. However, after a little while, amusement and curiosity overtook my self-consciousness because of the way our professor was handling the students. Watching the way he targeted certain uncomfortable people, pressed people for more information, and in some cases bordered on racist ("is there internet in China?"), made me really question the mental state he was in. I have seen my prof outside class a couple times and he strikes me as a very unique person. There is nothing to show he is hiding behind any sort of false persona; whenever I see him, he is raw and exposed. Not exposed in a way to suggest he is vulnerable, just exposed in that he presents himself without inhibition--a trait I rarely observe in this city. To be yourself is brave, and he makes it seem effortless. This is inspiring, but I am still frightened.

1st post

Well, it appears as if my anti-blog prejudice is being forced aside. For a New Media course I'm taking I am keeping record of my journey through the semester. I wonder if I'll join the tidal wave of redundant emo e-journal entries or whether I'll still hate blogs after I no longer have necessity of being on the website. I think perhaps the reason for my prejudice is the masses of txt sp3ak, noobing up the internet.

Cliche blog feature of the day: mood monitor.
My mood: looking forward to pancakes.

Someday I won't be bitter, I promise.
